One person died Monday in a single-engine plane crash in Larimer County, officials said. No names have been released, but records show the plane is registered to Lyons resident Chuck R. Cullum Jr.
The plane went down about 3 p.m. in rugged terrain near Carter Lake, starting a 2-acre fire, said the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have not determined a cause for the crash.
“The pilot said, ‘mayday, mayday, mayday,’ ” then gave the plane’s identification number, said Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. “Then he said ‘mayday’ one more time before they lost radio communications.”
Carter Lake is about 15 miles southwest of Fort Collins. The Denver Post
