CALGARY, Alberta — Darryl Sutter resigned Tuesday as general manager of the Calgary Flames.
The NHL team said that assistant GM Jay Feaster will be the acting general manager. The Flames are fourth in the Northwest Division with 35 points.
Sutter was hired as general manager in 2003, a few months after becoming the coach. He gave up his coaching job in 2006 to concentrate on the front office.

Palmieri leads USA to win
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Kyle Palmieri had two goals and an assist in leading the U.S. junior hockey team to a 6-1 win over Slovakia in a preliminary round game of the World Championships.
Charlie Coyle had a goal and two assists while Jack Campbell had a relatively easy night, stopping 17 shots in a game the defending gold-medal winners outshot the Slovaks 57-18.
Chris Brown, Drew Shore and Emerson Etem also scored as the Americans built a 4-0 lead on 35 shots less than 12 minutes into the second period.
The U.S. is coming off a tournament-opening 3-2 overtime win over Finland and took over first place in the Group A pool with five points and two games left.
Nowitzki has sprained knee
DALLAS — Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki has a sprained right knee and missed Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors.
Team spokeswoman Sarah Melton said an MRI revealed the sprain and that Nowitzki is day to day.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said before the game. “We’re not sure what the timetable will be.”
Nowitzki was injured in the second quarter of Monday night’s 103-93 victory at Oklahoma City.
• Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo missed his fifth consecutive game Tuesday against Indiana because of a sprained left ankle and is day to day.
• Milwaukee Bucks guard Earl Boykins was suspended one game without pay for making intentional contact with a referee.

World Cup skiers Marco Sullivan of the U.S. and Louis- Pierre Helie of Canada crashed in downhill training in Bormio, Italy, and were airlifted to a hospital.
Helie injured his head, his team said. He landed hard and was picked up from the icy Stelvio course by helicopter.
Sullivan was the first skier out of the gate and lost control while landing a jump midway down.
• A Fort Worth, Texas, court blocked the release of an autopsy report on surfing champion Andy Irons at the request of his widow, Lyndie Irons. Irons was found dead in his hotel room in Dallas.
• New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira said veteran pitcher Andy Pettitte is “probably leaning towards retirement, but in a month and a half, a lot can happen.”
• America’s Cup champion BMW Oracle Racing said German automaker BMW will end its sponsorship at the end of the year, by mutual agreement.
