DENVER—Dog owners using the off-leash areas at Chatfield and Cherry Creek state parks will have to buy a daily pass starting Saturday.

The daily fee will be $2 and an annual pass will cost $20. The pass will allow up to three dogs per handler.

This spring, the sites at the two Denver-area parks will be fenced and the space at Cherry Creek slightly reduced.

Officials say the changes are attempts to ease conflicts between dog owners and horseback riders, who have complained about being chased by dogs.

Parks officials are also concerned about the environmental impacts from the dogs’ use of the areas.

Parks Department spokesman Deb Frazier tells The Denver Post that revenue from the passes will be used only for the dog-walking areas.
