A local tattoo artist who goes by the name Kaos plans to end 2010 by setting a world record for the most tattoos in 24 hours.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday and running through the first minute of 2011, Kaos will attempt to administer 900 tattoos, culminating when he tattoos himself as the ball drops.

The current record stands at 801 tattoos in a day.

Participants won’t get to pick their tattoo. Kaos, who works for P66 Tattoo and Art Galleria, will be repeating the same 3 1/2-by-1-inch pink-ribbon tattoo on each participant to raise money to fight breast cancer. The size of the tattoo is a requirement to qualify for Guinness World Records.

Tattoos cost $10, and event organizers say 60 percent of that amount will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The other 40 percent will cover the cost of the event.

It will take place at the Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center, at 7800 E. Tufts Ave.
