COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Authorities say a mail truck driver killed in a freak accident on Interstate 25 in southern Colorado was a 57-year-old man from Las Animas.

The Colorado State Patrol says William Grissom was driving an 18-wheeler and trailer that was hauling mail that was struck by a flatbed trailer that cut loose from a pickup truck. Grissom was going northbound and the trailer was going southbound.

The accident caused a fire about 150 yards long off the side of the interstate about 12 miles north of Pueblo.

Authorities say Grissom died at the scene. The state patrol doesn’t believe drugs, alcohol, or speed were factors in the accident. A decision on whether any charges are warranted hasn’t been made.
