An electrical problem with a bathroom vent apparently sparked a fire that caused an estimated $20,000 damage early today at a home at The Meadows in Castle Rock.

Castle Rock Fire Rescue, which responded to the home in the 4000 block of Foothills Drive about 6:59 a.m., found that the fire had spread to the attic.

They requested additional assistance from surrounding fire departments.

A total of 37 firefighters from Castle Rock, South Metro, Larkspur and Franktown responded to the home.

The fire was brought under control about 7:25 a.m.

Castle Rock Fire Chief Art Morales said in a news release that all indications are that a problem with a bathroom vent was the cause of the fire.

The man and woman living in the home escaped uninjured, said Morales.

Although there was $20,000 worth of damage, officials said the couple will probably be able to continue living there, despite the damage.
