An Arapahoe County man called 911 early Wednesday and told deputies who came to his house that he had shot his wife during an argument.
Deputies arrived at the home in the 23800 block of East Archer Place in unincorporated Arapahoe County at 8:37 a.m. and found a woman dead inside.
The woman was identified Wednesday night as Monique D. Brunecz, 64.
Her 47-year-old husband, Russell Brunecz, is in custody.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said Brunecz apparently tried to commit suicide after shooting his wife — he had self-inflicted superficial knife wounds.
Robinson said deputies contacted the man at the front door of the home and he was “cooperative” and “surrendered himself without incident.”
Robinson said the man and his wife were the only people in the home at the time of the shooting.
