The man accused of leading a 30-minute chase across the north metro area after running over an officer’s foot is being held the Adams County Jail, his bond set at $1 million.
According to 9News, Andrew Terry, 35 of Thornton, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder on a peace officer, second-degree assault on a peace officer, attempted first-degree assault on a peace officer, criminal mischief over $1,000, vehicular eluding and reckless driving.
Colorado State Patrol spokesman Sgt. John Hahn said Wednesday that at 7:24 p.m. Tuesday, the State Patrol was informed that a suspected drunken driver, later identified as Terry, had run over the foot of a Thornton police officer in the vicinity of 128th Avenue and Quebec Street and fled the scene in a Ford Ranger.
At 7:38 p.m., troopers spotted the vehicle at 104th Avenue and U.S. 85 and gave chase along Interstate 76. During the chase, troopers were joined by officers from Thornton and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Hahn said shots were fired at the fleeing suspect during the pursuit, although he wasn’t sure which agency fired.
The chase ended in the 9700 block of Steele Street in Thornton at 7:44 p.m. when law enforcement forced the truck to stop.
There was a struggle between the troopers and the suspect.
One trooper sustained minor injuries and the second trooper moderate injuries, said Hahn. He didn’t know the extent of the suspect’s injuries or if the suspect was shot.
The officers were treated and released at North Suburban Medical Center.
Hahn said he doesn’t know the status or condition of the suspect.
He said the investigation has been turned over to the Adams County Critical Incident Team.
According to 9News, this isn’t the first time this month Terry has been in contact with police. Westminster Police told the television station that on Dec. 17, Terry rammed a Westminster Police car after undercover police officer saw him break into a car in the 8700 block of Sheridan Blvd.
After Terry ran his truck into the car, police was taken into custody. Terry was released on bond Dec. 19.
