After beating the best team in the Central Hockey League’s Turner Conference at home on New Year’s Eve, the fireworks continued for the Colorado Eagles as they blew out the Allen Americans in Texas 11-6 to start 2011. The 11 goals and 17 combined both tied franchise highs, while Kevin Ulanski had a short-handed hat trick and became just the third player in team history to score four goals in a game.

The teams combined for eight goals in the first period, tying a Colorado franchise record for combined goals in a period. The Eagles scored five goals on 10 shots, while the Americans took advantage of Colorado penalties to score three goals.

The teams scored another eight combined goals in the third period. Ulanski scored twice in the period in a span of 15 seconds for his third and fourth goals of the night.The Eagles will look for their third win in as many days, in as many cities, when they travel to North Richland Hills, Texas, to take on the Brahmas today.

Tigers remain in first place.

The Colorado College men’s basketball team (6-5, 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) ended 2010 with a 69-54 win over Trinity University (3-7, 0-2 SCAC) late Friday night. With the win, the Tigers retained their share of first place in the SCAC.

CC’s Nick Rose scored 20 points while setting career highs in rebounds (seven) and assists (eight). Longmont native Brady Ohlsen grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and added nine points for the Tigers. Luke Caldarera led Trinity with 10 points.
