ASPEN, Colo.—Pitkin County saw a record number of foreclosures last year—144, up from 105 in 2009.
The Aspen Daily New reports the previous record was 143 filed in 1983. Pitkin County’s 10-year average for foreclosure filings is 24.
The county includes Apsen, which has many multimillion-dollar properties.
Foreclosures have been filed in all segments of the real estate market since the recession began in 2008. They include the $520 million Snowmass Base Village foreclosure.
Neighboring Garfield County also experienced a record number of foreclosures. Last year’s total was 632, up from 408 filed in 2009.
