A child was gravely injured early Wednesday, and his mother’s 30-year- old boyfriend was arrested on a criminal charge of felony child abuse resulting in bodily injury.
Police weren’t specifying the relationship between Theodore I. Madrid of Aurora and the boy, the nature of the child’s injuries or the child’s age. The injuries were characterized as life-threatening, and the boy remained in critical condition at an unspecified local hospital, said Aurora Detective Bob Friel.
A family friend who asked not to be identified said the boy is 4 years old and had been body-slammed.
Madrid was being held in the Arapahoe County Jail on $500,000 bail. A judge issued a restraining order in the case, but records do not specify the boy or other people he must stay away from.
Fire medics and police were called to an apartment in the 100 block of Dayton Street just after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Madrid and the boy’s mother were both home.
