DENVER—Colorado’s incoming governor will face some old challenges when he takes office next week.

Democratic Gov.-elect John Hickenlooper will be sworn in Tuesday. Tops on his to-do list: cutting the budget and getting workers back on the job.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Hickenlooper declined to lay out specifics of what he’ll propose this term. Instead, the Democrat talked up cooperation.

Hickenlooper has stayed mum so far on what to expect, though he has hinted there’s “no appetite” for higher taxes. The incoming governor also says Coloradans will see budget cuts, not new programs.

The new governor says he’ll avoid specifics in his inaugural address next week.
