Ready for a daily sampling — or maybe a multi-course meal — of the best music being cooked up in your own backyard? If you jumped up and down wildly and screamed something resembling “yes,” check out , a new(ish) website and promotional venture founded by Jake Martin and Jayson Debellis.
The site is dedicated to exposing Denver’s best musical goods and helping those acts get more stage time. According to Martin, Speaker Snacks presents “a bird’s-eye view into the day-to-day happenings of Colorado’s eclectic music scene via live show coverage, video interviews, music video shoots, written interviews, song premieres (and) event curating.”
And there are no limits on styles they’re interested in promoting.
“We’re open to electronic music, rock, punk, psychedelia, folk, witch house, grunge, house and beyond,” Martin says. “And we hope to incorporate visual art installations by local artists as well.”
To get the live ball rolling, Speaker Snacks is hosting a show and installation at the tonight, Jan. 7, featuring four local bands that represent various genres: Thundercade (pushing the new-ish witch house genre, popularized by Denver’s own Pictureplane), Gem Trails (progenitors of space-jam psychedelia), Night of Joy (DIY/garage-rock) and Kevin Costner Suicide Pact (ambient/experimental).
“If everything goes according to plan, Speaker Snacks will be throwing monthly events at the Meadowlark that look and feel a lot like this one,” said Martin.
The site also plans to hold fundraisers for bands in the future, to help give them a boost they may need to hit indie festivals throughout the U.S. like South by Southwest, CMJ and others.
“It’s a great feeling when a metal head leaves one of our events or our website with a new appreciation for electronic music,” Martin says.
The show starts at 9 p.m. and costs $7. Visit for more information.
