DENVER—Gov. Bill Ritter, who leaves office next week, is being called “the best friend Colorado sportsmen have had” in years.
The Colorado Wildlife Commission recognized Ritter’s work on the behalf of hunters and anglers with a plaque featuring a replica wildlife officer badge. Members also thanked him for his support of wildlife issues during a meeting Wednesday.
Ritter courted the support of hunters and anglers when campaigning in 2006. State wildlife officials thanked him for supporting new oil and gas regulations aimed at protecting wildlife and approving a plan to conserve roadless areas in national forests.
Ritter, a Democrat, didn’t seek a second term.
