DENVER—Gov. John Hickenlooper has picked a Kaiser Permanente executive to join his cabinet.

Hickenlooper announced Tuesday that he’s appointed Kathy Nesbitt to serve as executive director of the Department of Personnel and Administration, which oversees 38,000 state employees.

Nesbitt is the human resources director for Kaiser Permanente in Denver, where she works with more than 5,000 employees of the health care organization.

Nesbitt earlier worked as a staff attorney for Mountain States Employers Counsel and an employment attorney at Qwest Communications.
