The Rockies avoided a salary-arbitration hearing by signing setup man Matt Belisle to a one-year, $2.35 million contract.
Belisle had a career year in 2010, when he pitched 92 innings in 76 appearances and compiled a 2.93 ERA with 91 strikeouts. He earned $850,000 in base salary last season, plus incentives that took him over $1 million.
Belisle’s signing leaves the Rockies with four unsigned arbitration-eligible players: Ian Stewart, Jason Hammel, Felipe Paulino and Matt Lindstrom. Clubs and players exchange salary figures Tuesday, with hearings scheduled to start Feb. 1.
