PUEBLO, Colo.—The university that Colorado Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia headed before his election must trim its budget because the student body makeup didn’t match projections.
The Pueblo Chieftain reported Saturday that Colorado State University-Pueblo interim President Julio Leon says the extent of the required cuts won’t be known until current enrollment is finalized.
He says the cuts are manageable and won’t come in personnel or programs.
Enrollment rose last fall, but the proportions of full-time and part-time students and in-state and out-of-state students were different than expected. Leon says that affected revenue.
Garcia resigned in early November after he was elected on the ticket of Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.
Hickenlooper wants Garcia to head the state Higher Education Department. He would be Colorado’s first lieutenant governor to head a state department.
