A semi-truck carrying a butane tanker crashed on U.S. 85 north of Fort Lupton about 4:45 p.m., and the highway remains closed tonight while emergency responders work to get the trapped driver out the truck.

Southbound lanes of U.S. 85 have reopened, and northbound lanes are expected to reopen in a few hours.

The driver, whose name has not been released, has been airlifted by helicopter to Denver Health Medical Center.

A spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol said that the driver had been southbound on U.S. 85, but for an unknown reason crossed over into the northbound lane, and rolled the truck off the side of the road.
