AURORA — Violent crime decreased in the city in 2010, as did sex assaults and robberies, according to preliminary figures released Friday.
Rapes were down by 15 percent and robberies by 8 percent in 2010 compared with the previous year. There was one more murder (24 total) in 2010 than in 2009.
Overall, major crimes increased slightly, by 0.6 percent. It was the first increase after eight years of decreases in the major-crimes category. Burglaries increased by 11 percent.
There were 11 fatal traffic accidents in the city in 2010, compared with 19 in 2009.
