Three Colorado football players and another man are being investigated for vandalism, with one of the players caught on video kicking the doors of three cars in a private parking garage.
The incident, which occurred just after 3 a.m. Saturday at City View Lofts in Denver, was caught by surveillance cameras. On the video, CU sophomore offensive lineman Bryce Givens can be seen kicking three cars. Also in the group are sophomore defensive tackle Will Pericak and junior offensive guard Eric Richter.
One of the victims, Jimmy Do, who, according to the police report, had a party earlier that night, posted the video on Facebook in order to help identify the men. Do said he was not going to pursue charges since the group has agreed to pay for the damages.
“We were trying to figure out a situation where we leave the legalities out of it and the police out of it,” Do said. “We struck something in between, with them doing some community service and work around the building. They paid for everything, they told their coach. . . . We’re not out to ruin their lives. It was just a dumb mistake.”
According to another victim, Simon Dakermanjian, approximately $2,100 in damages was done to the three cars. Do said damages to an elevator run at approximately $5,000.
First-year CU football coach Jon Embree issued a statement about the situation Friday afternoon.
“I am in the process of meeting with all of the players involved in this incident,” Embree said in the statement. “I understand that they have met with the victims and have offered apologies and restitution, and while that is appropriate, they will also face team and university sanctions.
“While I cannot reveal what those penalties might be, I will say I’m not going to tolerate this kind of behavior. I am still in the process of getting to know this squad and am recruiting new players, but I am serving notice to every current and future member of our team that I will not excuse off-the-field conduct that involves violence, vandalism, or any actions that dishonor this university or this program.”
