Denver city officials on Friday rejected, mostly for clerical reasons, the paperwork seeking to recall Denver school board President Nate Easley Jr.
Petitioners may fix the errors and resubmit the paperwork needed to begin collecting the necessary signatures to get a recall on the ballot, according to the notice sent by Amber McReynolds, deputy director of elections.
The submission from former school board candidate John McBride did not follow specific state laws required on paperwork used to collect signatures. The district was incorrect, a warning statement wasn’t boldfaced, and the petition didn’t call for the election of a successor.
If the petition is approved, McBride will have 60 days to gather 5,363 signatures from registered voters in Easley’s district.
The Elections Division then reviews the signatures and, if they are valid, would put the recall on the May ballot, along with a question about a replacement.
