Weld County authorities said they know little about what led a 53-year-old father to shoot his 21-year-old son in the basement of their Fort Lupton home then turn the gun on himself just before 6 p.m. Monday.
“They were both intoxicated,” said Weld County Sheriff’s Department undersheriff Margie Martinez.
Both were still alive this evening. Their names and conditions were not released.
The men were home alone at the time, so investigators haven’t determined the cause of the incident.
The home is in the 600 block of McKinley Avenue, three blocks east of U.S. Highway 85.
