A Denver resident was taken to the hospital last night after attempting to put out a fire in his garage.

The fire started in a small attic above the garage at 855 S. Yates just before 7:30 p.m., according to Denver Fire spokesman Lt. Phil Champagne.

The man made a few attempts at putting out the fire before calling firefighters. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to completely extinguish the fire.

The resident was overcome by smoke and taken to a hospital as a precaution. His name and condition have not been released.

The fire, the cause of which has not been determined, caused minimum damage and did not spread from the garage to the home.
