Northbound Santa Fe Drive has reopened near Alameda Boulevard after authorities said a car smashed into a commercial building this afternoon, breaking a meter off a gas line.

Xcel Energy Spokesman Mark Stutz said that Xcel personnel responded within two minutes after a two-car crash damaged the gas line at a business near Santa Fe Drive and West Bayaud Avenue, and were able to shut the gas off.

Stutz said the public risk from leaking gas was minimal because of the short duration of the leak.

“Luckily we had someone in the area,” Stutz said.

A Denver Fire Department spokesman said two people were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
