AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE: Dr. J. John Cohen, a University of Colorado School of Medicine professor, will be awarded the 2010 Award for Public Understanding of Science & Technology. Cohen, known as JJ, has spent a career demystifying science for students and the general public.

RYLEY CARLOCK & APPLEWHITE: Hired Randall G. Alt as a shareholder in its real estate, lending and financial institutions practice. Alt was formerly at the Denver law firm of Otten Johnson.

PEAKS RESORT & SPA: The Telluride resort named Patrick Laguens as executive chef.

HEIN & ASSOCIATES: Appointed Brian Mandell-Rice a managing partner.
