A Colorado soldier was one of two GIs based in North Carolina who were killed in combat in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Tuesday that the soldiers died Saturday in the Helmand province when their unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

They were 22-year-old Spec. Joshua R. Campbell of Bennett and Spec. Shawn A. Muhr, 26, of Coon Rapids, Iowa.

Both were assigned to the 264th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion of the 82nd Sustainment Brigade at Fort Bragg.

Campbell entered the Army in February 2008 and was assigned to his brigade in December 2008, according to a Fort Bragg media release. He served as a heavy wheel vehicle driver and deployed in October 2010. This was his first deployment.

Muhr’s family said he had returned home on leave just after Christmas and returned to Afghanistan on Jan. 12. He joined the Army six years ago.

Memorial services for both soldiers are yet to be determined.
