BOYS BASKETBALL
Into the final meetings of the regular season, here’s one game you probably don’t want to miss — two-time defending Class 5A champion Regis Jesuit plays at top-ranked Highlands Ranch in the Continental League on Friday at 7 p.m.
The host Falcons’ only loss was to Cherry Creek in the Bruins’ tournament right before Christmas.
Since then, the Falcons have won 11 games in a row, all but one by at least 21 points.
A scheduling quirk has the Raiders playing at Highlands Ranch for the second consecutive season, but they will have plenty of incentive — as of today, well-respected Regis Jesuit coach Ken Shaw has 598 career victories.
Other games of note will be played today, when East hosts Abraham Lincoln in the 5A-4A Denver Prep; Friday, when Fort Collins visits Fossil Ridge in the 5A Front Range; and Saturday, when East has another city toughie, against George Washington at the Thunderdome, 2:30 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Showdown set.
Tonight, another 4A-3A cross-class matchup is worth your time.
Three-time defending 3A champion Holy Family, coming off a victory over four- time defending 4A champion Broomfield, plays at 4A top- ranked Longmont.
Take your pick Friday of ThunderRidge vs. Chaparral in the 5A Continental or Monarch vs. Mountain Range in the 5A Front Range.
Saturday, 5A top-ranked Highlands Ranch at Regis Jesuit at 7 p.m. in the 5A Continental has meaning as well as a reputation; and East-GW girls, 1 p.m. at the Thunderdome, will be for control of the city.
GIRLS SWIMMING
League meets.
This is your warm-up week, ladies.
With the state meets just a week away in Fort Collins (5A) and Loveland (4A), the focus this week is winning your league crown and capping your tapers for next week. Most if not all leagues will go on Friday and Saturday across the state.
WRESTLING
Prepping for regionals.
The schedule is a little lighter this week as teams gear up for a huge regional weekend next week. Class 5A’s top-ranked Coronado Cougars will host a dual meet tournament Saturday.
ICE HOCKEY
Regis Jesuit vs. Chatfield delayed.
No makeup date has been announced for Wednesday’s postponed game between top-ranked Regis Jesuit and Chatfield.
On the Saturday docket, Battle Mountain will be in Arvada to challenge Ralston Valley. Battle Mountain has been playing well. Regis Jesuit will be in Superior to play Monarch, which seems to give the big boys trouble every now and then.
