A teenager tried as an adult and convicted in the rape and beating of a Denver woman two years ago was sentenced today to 75 years to life in prison.

Shakiel Madden-Vaughn, who turned 18 on Oct. 30, was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of sexual assault, first-degree assault and aggravated robbery, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

He was 16 years old on Jan. 24, 2009, when he attacked a 40-year-old woman after following her from a light rail station in the 9000 block of East Mansfield Avenue, raping her and beating her with a baseball bat and then stealing her purse, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors had sought the maximum sentence, 128 years.

Madden-Vaughn still faces charges in two other attacks in the same neighborhood near Cherry Creek Reservoir in the same week.

He is accused of attacking a 69-year-old woman on Jan. 21, 2009, and hitting her in the back of the head with a brick numerous times.

Prosecutors also allege that two days earlier he grabbed and fondled a 12-year-old girl on a playground.
