A three-month investigation of the Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District by the Weld County district attorney has uncovered no wrongdoing.
DA spokeswoman Jennifer Finch told the Windsor Beacon in an e-mail this week that the probe, which began in November, involved “whether alleged conflicts of interest involving the Board of the Windsor/Severance Fire Protection District rose to the level of criminal behavior.”
The DA’s office finished its investigation Jan. 24 and, “based on the available information, determined that no criminal conduct was found, therefore no charges will be filed at this time,” Finch said.
The fire district board has been a focus of controversy for the past few months. Issues have included a search process for a new chief, a push by firefighters to form a union and the resignation of board members.
The district has also been the target of a Department of Local Affairs probe focusing on how it used a grant to pay for the construction of a fire museum in Boardwalk Park, according to the Beacon.
