MINNEAPOLIS—Some fired Minnesota employees of Chipotle Mexican Grill are suing the Denver-based restaurant chain over back pay.
The employees claim Chipotle did not pay their wages on time after they were fired for failing to provide documents proving they are legal to work in the U.S.
Chipotle started firing undocumented workers at its Minnesota restaurants in December, following an immigration audit.
The fired workers allege they were not paid wages owed them in a timely manner, as required by Minnesota law.
Two former Chipotle workers filed the lawsuit Thursday in Hennepin County Court. It seeks class-action status.
A Chipotle spokesman tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press in an e-mail that the company paid the departing employees.
