BOULDER, Colo.—A memo sent via a Girl Scouts of Colorado volunteer is causing a stir with its warning that scouts selling cookies in Boulder could be arrested if they don’t have the proper paperwork.
But Police Chief Mark Beckner tells the Daily Camera newspaper officers have no intention of arresting young Thin Mint sellers.
The city does require permits for door-to-door sales. City spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says the Girl Scouts of Colorado already has one, but individual troop leaders must also submit their information for background checks before their troops are included on the permit.
Girl Scouts of Colorado spokeswoman Amanda Kalina says the memo could have used softer language to warn of Boulder’s requirements.
As for Boulder County, it doesn’t require the permits. Says Sheriff Joe Pelle, “I need my Thin Mints.”
