FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Larimer County district attorney says a Fort Collins police officer was justified in shooting and wounding a man who police said had fired a handgun in their direction.

DA Larry Abrahamson said Thursday no charges would be filed against officer Carrie Wills.

Abrahamson says James Scheu Jr. had called 911 on Jan. 25 threatening to kill himself.

Wills and other officers heard gunshots when they arrived in the man’s neighborhood. Abrahamson says the man fired more shots at random but twice fired in the direction of Wills and other officers.

The DA says Wills fired one round at the man after the second time he fired in her direction.

No one beside the suspect was hurt.
