DENVER—A judge has rejected an environmental group’s lawsuit challenging Montrose County’s approval of a permit for a uranium mill in southwest Colorado.

The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction reports that Montrose County District Judge James Schum ruled Friday that Montrose County was within its rights last year to issue a special-use permit to Energy Fuels Resources Corp. to build the mill near Naturita (nat-yur’-EE’-tah).

The ruling follows Colorado health officials’ approval in January of a radioactive materials license for what would be the country’s first new conventional uranium mill in more than 25 years.

Energy Fuels has said the Pinon Ridge mill could be built and running as soon as the first half of 2012. The company plans to process 500 tons of ore daily for the nuclear fuels industry.
