FORT COLLINS — A proposal to ban the sale of animals at pet stores in Fort Collins has fallen short of the number of signatures needed to put it on the April municipal ballot.
But supporters have until Feb. 16 to come up with more signatures of registered voters.
Petitions turned in last week had 1,135 valid signatures, but 2,517 are needed to ask voters to considering banning the sale of animals at Fort Collins pet stores. Backers say the goal is to discourage puppy mills from selling animals to pet stores.
