A Colorado Springs man who was already on a deferred sentence as of early 2010 for impersonating a police officer was arrested today for suspicion of the same crime.
Jason Doorenbos-Parry, 25, had been sentenced in March 2010 to two years of unsupervised probation and 100 hours of community service.
In November 2010, police officers began another investigation into complaints that Doorenbos-Parry was following and stopping drivers for traffic violations, contacting and “citing” persons for trespassing, and making “citizen’s arrests” at various locations around Colorado Springs, according to a news release from Colorado Springs Police.
Using information gathered, officers obtained search warrants on Friday, and executed them this morning.
When officers searched Doorenbos-Parry’s home and vehicle, they arrested him.
Doorenbos-Parry is suspected of operating an unlicensed security company within city limits.
He was not licensed as a security officer and was carrying equipment without proper certifications. The business locations he was patrolling had not given him permission or contracts to do so.
The man is currently in custody on charges of possession of weapons by a previous offender and impersonation of a peace officer, according to the release.
Colorado Springs police believe many of the people who who may have been stopped by Doorenbos-Parry have not come forward.
Doorenbos-Parry is a white male about 5 feet, 10 inches tall weighing about 145 pounds, who wore a security uniform with blue Sergeant chevrons on the sleeves of his shirt and jacket.
He drove a 1995, red, 4-door, Mercury Mystique that may have had sirens and flashing lights mounted on the dashboard. There was also a laptop mounted between the front seats.
Anyone who believes they were contacted by Doorenbos-Parry in this manner is asked to contact Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000 to schedule a talk with an officer.
