DENVER—An arctic blast is bringing frigid temperatures, wind and snow to Colorado.
On Tuesday, Steamboat Ski and Resort reported 14 inches of new snow and the Aspen Highlands and Beaver Creek ski areas both reported 11.
With such deep, fresh snow, Steamboat ski patrol director John Kohnke warned skiers and riders to steer clear of tree wells. The soft, snowy areas around tree trunks can act like quicksand when someone falls in them.
The snow canceled 65 flights at Denver International Airport. Some airlines are offering waivers to customers rebooking flights. Snowfall has ranged from 2 to 6 inches in the Denver area and up to 8 inches in parts of the eastern plains.
It also snowed in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado, where snowpack has lagged.
