DENVER—Colorado moviegoers could be paying 10 cents more to see their favorite stars under a proposal by two state lawmakers to raise money to attract filmmakers.

Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Massey and Republican Sen. Nancy Spence concede their dime-a-ticket proposal faces long odds in the Legislature. They say they’ll try to change the proposal to have lawmakers ask voters to approve the fee instead.

Colorado is one of 40 states that offer tax incentives to filmmakers but industry officials say Colorado’s program is one of the least attractive. Industry officials say the 10-cent fee on tickets would be the nation’s first.

Massey says his proposal would bring in an estimated $4 million to the Colorado Film Commission, which would oversee the tax rebates. The commission currently has about $500,000.
