The city of Aurora’s parks and recreation department is hoping that a little trickery will help clean up a messy problem.

Crews have set up phony coyotes at Utah Park in an effort to keep geese away. The 46-acre park at South Peoria Street and East Jewell Avenue is popular with the birds who, of course, leave behind their waste, which has led to complaints from joggers and bicyclists, said Sherri-Jo Stowell, marketing and projects specialist for the department.

It’s also a pain for cleanup crews.

The four fake coyotes, flat and made of plywood, were set up last month and are being used on a trial basis.

Some municipalities have used the technique and noted a decrease in the number of geese — and the amount of mess.
