Engineers from NASA, Lockheed Martin and Cornell University shared a Valentine’s Day rendezvous with Comet Tempel 1 on Monday.
The Stardust spacecraft built by Lockheed in south Jefferson County came within 124 miles of the comet, giving scientists their first glimpse of the comet’s surface since it was visited by NASA’s Deep Impact spacecraft in July 2005.
