FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Former U.S. Rep. Betsy Markey has been named the Department of Homeland Security’s assistant secretary for intergovernmental affairs.
The Coloradoan reports that the Democrat from Fort Collins will be based in Washington, D.C. She’ll coordinate Homeland Security’s work with state, local, tribal and territorial leaders.
The job doesn’t require Senate confirmation. She will start work Tuesday.
In 2008, Markey became the first Democrat in more than three decades to win in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which covers most of eastern Colorado. She lost in November to Republican Cory Gardner.
