Hinkley High School in Aurora was evacuated this afternoon after police received a report of a male armed with a gun.
Nearby East Middle School was placed on lockdown.
By 2:15 p.m. Aurora police had cleared the situation.
The incident began about 1:30 p.m. and students were evacuated from the school to the campus athletic field, said Bob Friel, an Aurora Police Department spokesman.
Police were alerted about a male — it’s unknown if the person was an adult or a juvenile — in a car in the parking lot who was armed with a gun, Friel said.
Police evacuated the building as a precautionary measure so it could be searched “inch-by-inch,” Friel said.
Officers did not find anything and student were allowed back in and the lockdown was lifted.
