Rep. Ed Perlmutter has delayed Saturday’s planned appearance at a Lakewood supermarket because of the continued debate over the federal budget, a news release said today.
The Jefferson County Democrat’s appearance at the Safeway store at 9160 West Colfax Ave was to be the first “Government in the Grocery” event held by the legislator since the deadly mass shooting at a similar event in Tucson, Ariz., on Jan. 8.
A Perlmutter spokesperson said in the release that Perlmutter’s presence is necessary in Washington as debate on the budget continues into the weekend.
“It is not possible for Ed to return to Colorado in time to conduct the one-on-one meetings with constituents at Safeway tomorrow,” the release said.
The event is now scheduled for Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. until noon.
