FORT LUPTON, Colo.—Police say a 3-year-old boy has died after he was pulled from a pond in the small town of Fort Lupton.
Police Chief Ken Poncelow says the boy died Saturday afternoon. His name hasn’t been released.
Poncelow says the boy wandered away from a home after telling his grandmother he wanted to watch television. Poncelow says the grandmother had been playing with the boy but was in a bathroom when he left.
The chief says the grandmother called police at about 9:20 a.m. and an officer found the boy 20 to 30 minutes later.
Authorities initially said the boy’s mother was watching him.
Authorities say the pond is about 50 yards from the house and is on a golf course in Fort Lupton, about 20 miles northeast of Denver.
