The woman believed responsible for the Thornton crash that killed a family of five has been released from Denver Health Medical Center, a spokeswoman said Sunday.
Monica Chavez was in the hospital two days for injuries to a leg. Her two children, who were in the Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle with Chavez, were released Saturday.
Chavez reportedly blew through an intersection at 100 mph during the evening rush hour Thursday. Her vehicle launched off a median and then landed on top of a Chevrolet pickup carrying the Stollsteimer family, killing them on impact. The SUV then rolled across a parking lot and crashed into a mattress store near the intersection of East 84th Avenue and Grant Street.
