Pro-democracy Libyans rallying outside the Colorado Capitol on Sunday got a harsh taste of solidarity with their fellows still living in the North African country.
As the group of about 100 prayed, one woman burst into tears when she learned by phone that her brother had been killed in Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city, where state-sponsored violence has left hundreds dead.
Libyan protesters are pushing for the ouster of leader Moammar Khadafy following less-violent revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia.
The woman, a student who moved here two years ago, declined to give her name and was escorted from the protest by her husband.
It was the second day protesters met outside the Capitol, said a male protestor, who moved from Ben ghazi 30 years ago. He asked that his name not be used.
People sang, prayed and waved Libyan flags and placards, one of which read: “Qaddafi is killing right now in Libya.”
“We had up to 350 people yesterday,” he said. “We showed up again because of the continuous killing of our people in Libya. It’s nonstop.”
