One of the harshest critics of Pinnacol Assurance, Colorado’s state-chartered workers’ compensation insurance fund, is a step closer to its board.
On a 5-1 vote, the Senate Business, Labor and Technology Committee voted Wednesday to confirm John Cevette, who is chief of staff to Senate President Brandon Shaffer, D-Longmont, to the board. Cevette has been one of the toughest critics of Pinnacol and particularly its chief executive, Ken Ross.
Sen. Shawn Mitchell, R-Broomfield, who cast the lone vote against Cevette, questioned how he could be a member of the board when he bears animosity toward Pinnacol’s CEO.
The committee unanimously confirmed the appointments of investor Blair Richardson and lawyer John Plotkin to the Pinnacol board.
In a statement Wednesday, Pinnacol welcomed the three new board members, saying they “offered an expanded point of view.”
The confirmations must still be approved by the full Senate.
