GOLDEN, Colo.—A second mental health evaluation has been ordered for a man suspected of wounding two eighth-graders outside their suburban Denver middle school after the first evaluation determined he was insane at the time of the shooting.
Bruco (BREW’-so) Strong Eagle Eastwood has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the Feb. 23, 2010, shooting at Deer Creek Middle School. Eastwood faces 15 charges, including attempted first-degree murder.
His trial had been scheduled to begin next month but is now scheduled for Sept. 16.
Jefferson County District Attorney spokeswoman Pam Russell says a judge last week denied a change of venue request by defense attorneys.
Unarmed teachers on sidewalk patrol are credited with stopping the shooting by tackling Eastwood and restraining him until deputies arrived.
