OMAHA, Neb.—Rich Purslow had two goals and an assist as Nebraska-Omaha beat sixth-ranked Denver 5-2 on Friday.

The win moved the Mavericks past Denver into second place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Purslow scored the first and last goals of the game for Nebraska-Omaha (20-11-2, 16-7-2). His first goal was short-handed just 5:42 into the game.

Denver (19-9-5, 15-7-3) sandwiched goals by Luke Salazar and Drew Shore around a goal by Nebraska-Omaha’s Johnnie Searfoss to tie the game 2-2 early in the third period.

But Nebraska-Omaha scored the last three goals of the game to pull away.

Shore has scored in seven straight games.

The Mavericks reached the 20-win plateau for the second straight season. It is their first year in the WCHA.
