Shun Lamar Birch goes on trial today in Denver District Court in the killing of a state witness in 2006. Opening statements begin at 9 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Christina Habas.
Kalonniann Clark was days away from testifying against gang leader Brian Kenneth Hicks in a 2005 shooting when she was shot to death Dec. 6, 2006.
Hicks was convicted last month of ordering his gang underlings to kill Clark while he was in jail. He was sentenced to life plus 120 years in prison.
Investigators say Hicks associate Willie D. Clark hired Birch to help him carry out the orders. The Denver Post
