The Rapids will travel to play the Chicago Fire in the second stage of qualifying for the U.S. Open Cup after a coin flip Monday by Major League Soccer determined the host team. The date and time will be announced later.

The 97-year-old U.S. Open Cup is an annual tournament open to professional and amateur teams. The winner of the Rapids-Fire game will play Chivas USA, Portland or San Jose in the third stage.

The Colorado Mines men’s team and the Metro State women’s team have the top seeds in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference basketball tournaments, which start today.

The Mines men will host No. 8 Nebraska-Kearney at 7:30 p.m. No. 2 Metro State, the two-time defending men’s tournament champion, will host No. 7 Western New Mexico at the Auraria Event Center at 7 p.m.

The Metro State women will host eighth-seeded Western State at 5 p.m. No. 2 Fort Lewis, ranked third nationally in this week’s coaches poll, will play seventh-seeded Nebraska-Kearney in Durango at 5:30 p.m. Three-time defending women’s tournament champion CSU-Pueblo is seeded sixth and plays third- seeded Colorado Christian in Lakewood at 7 p.m.
